Georgian citizen detained in occupied Tskhinvali since December 2025 released

A Georgian citizen who was illegally detained near the occupied Tskhinvali region on 5 December 2025 has been released and is now in territory controlled by the Georgian central government, Georgia's State Security Service said.

According to the service, the Georgian authorities had repeatedly raised the issue of the citizen's unconditional release through the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) and the Geneva International Discussions.

The authorities also used the "hotline" mechanism and other relevant channels available to the central government, while international partners were actively involved in negotiations, the State Security Service said.

The service said the Georgian government, together with its international partners, would continue working to secure the release of all Georgian citizens who remain illegally detained in the occupied territories.
