Tengiz Sharmanashvili, First Deputy Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Defence and Security Committee, has accused “radical” opposition groups of attempting to sabotage Government initiatives aimed at “improving public welfare”.
Commenting on the opposition’s reaction to Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s initiative on price regulation, Sharmanashvili said radicals have once again chosen to side with groups benefiting from excessive profits rather than supporting ordinary citizens.
“The Prime Minister has presented his views on this issue and called on the Parliament to establish a commission to study and regulate prices in Georgia once and for all. Instead of standing with the people, radicals have aligned themselves with groups that profit excessively and want to obstruct this process, which is aimed at making life easier for citizens and improving their living conditions,” he said.
“They have always acted this way - they wanted to drag Georgia into war and wish everything bad for the country. If there is any theoretical way to create chaos and benefit from it, they will try to do so. This is their mindset,” Sharmanashvili added.
He also highlighted that the Prime Minister’s initiative was announced well ahead of the next elections, underscoring that it was not an electoral tactic but a deliberate policy decision.
“I would like to stress that this initiative was not announced during a pre-election period. There are still three years until the next elections. This was not a campaign trick, but a targeted step that the government takes on a daily basis to improve the welfare of the population,” he said.
