US President Donald Trump has approved a one-year extension of sanctions against Russia, imposed in response to its invasion of Ukraine.
The order emphasises that Russia’s actions and policies “continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States”.
The document is dated February 18, with publication in the US federal register scheduled for February 20.
The first sanctions against Russia were issued in 2014, initially targeting individuals and entities involved in the annexation of Crimea. The list has since been updated multiple times under both Trump’s first administration and President Joe Biden.
