The Embassy said “we sincerely mourn with the Georgian Orthodox community on the passing of His Holiness, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia"

The Ukrainian Embassy in Georgia has expressed its condolences to the Georgian Orthodox community following the death of His Holiness, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II.

In its statement, the Embassy said “we sincerely mourn with the Georgian Orthodox community on the passing of His Holiness, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia. Ukrainians remember with gratitude the support provided by the Georgian Orthodox Church during the first year of Russia’s unprovoked and relentless war against Ukraine.”

Patriarch Ilia II, who led the Georgian Orthodox Church for decades, passed away on 17 March at the age of 93.
