Former Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri has been summoned for questioning at the Prosecutor General’s Office. He arrived at the building shortly before 5 PM today.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Gomelauri is being questioned in connection with the so-called Chorchana episode — a politically sensitive case tied to the construction of a police checkpoint near the occupation line in the Georgian village of Chorchana in 2019.
At the time of the incident, Gomelauri was serving as the head of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSS).
The ruling Georgian Dream party has placed blame on its former ally, ex-Prime Minister and former Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia, for the construction of the checkpoint, which allegedly escalated tensions near the occupied territories.
The issue is also being examined by a temporary parliamentary investigative commission, probing alleged abuses committed by former officials from the 2003–2012 until July 5, 2025.
