For Ukraine, the priority is to end the war with Russia through negotiations. The main obstacle on this path is the position of Vladimir Putin, who refuses to engage in dialogue, – the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated during a briefing in Brussels.
The President was asked to comment on Trump's statement, where he called Zelenskyy "not the person to deal with." Furthermore, Trump believes that it is much easier to reach an agreement with Putin than with Zelenskyy.
"Harder with me than with Putin? As for me, it is easier with Trump than with Putin. I have had several meetings with the President of the United States of America, and we always find common ground for discussion and decision-making," Zelenskyy stated.
According to the Ukrainian President, Russians attacked Ukraine, seized Ukrainian territories, and are killing Ukrainians, so Ukraine has an absolutely legitimate right to defend itself.
"Putin currently does not want negotiations in any format. He plays with words and claims that they are allegedly 'ready for dialogue,' however, this simply looks like a parody of a sincere desire to end the war. He does not want it to end," Zelenskyy said.
As he noted, capturing the entire Donbas is no longer enough for the Kremlin leader. His "appetite" is growing because he found a loophole in terms of new agreements with the US and the lifting of sanctions.
"In my opinion, we cannot consider these agreements on diesel fuel separately. Next will be agreements on gas – I am absolutely sure of this. After the gas agreements, other sanctions might be lifted as well. Ultimately, this could affect the banking system, individuals, and the chemical industry. Another risk I mentioned is frozen assets," the President of Ukraine stated.
Relations between Ukraine and the US deteriorated after Washington signed a diesel agreement with Moscow.
