Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday said he had a productive meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House, thanking him for Washington's continued support for Ukraine.
“Thank you for everything we are doing together to protect Ukrainian lives and achieve peace,” Zelenskyy wrote on social media following the meeting in the Oval Office.
The Ukrainian president said he first expressed his condolences to Trump over the death of Senator Lindsey Graham, describing him as “a true friend of Ukraine”.
According to Zelenskyy, the two leaders discussed licensing the production of Patriot missile systems, as well as several other initiatives aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities. They also exchanged views on diplomacy, with Zelenskyy stressing the importance of restarting the diplomatic process.
“Our teams will coordinate the details of further communication. I am grateful for the strong support of the United States,” he said.
Zelenskyy arrived in Washington earlier today. During his visit, he is also scheduled to attend a memorial ceremony for the late Senator Lindsey Graham and meet all 100 US senators to discuss proposed legislation that would tighten sanctions against Russia.
