Zelenskyy: Russia must face consequences for strike on Kyiv’s Academy of Sciences

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia must be held accountable and face “real consequences” after a Russian drone struck the National Academy of Sciences building in central Kyiv, killing one person and injuring three others.

Zelenskyy said emergency services were carrying out rescue operations at the site, extinguishing a fire and searching the damaged building for people who might still be inside.

“There will certainly be a response,” Zelenskyy said, adding that Ukraine’s partners should recognise that supporting Ukraine means supporting human life and ensuring that attacks are not normalised.

“Russia must be held accountable for all of this and feel the real consequences,” he said.

The strike damaged part of the historic Academy of Sciences building and caused a fire. Ukrainian authorities said one person was killed and three others were injured.
