Zelenskyy: If presidential elections are held during the war, I will participate; I must defend my country until this war ends

Volodymyr Zelenskyy will run in the Ukrainian presidential elections if they are held under martial law, NBC News reports. An American journalist asked the Ukrainian President what decision he would make if new presidential elections were conducted amid the war with Russia.

According to Zelenskyy, he would definitely participate, as he remains responsible for the country's fate as long as Russian aggression continues.

“If this happens during the war, of course, it is my responsibility, because I must defend my country from the beginning to the end of this war,” Zelenskyy stated.

It is worth noting that the Ukrainian President has repeatedly stated his readiness to hold elections in Ukraine if Russian dictator Vladimir Putin meets his conditions.

“Tell Putin: give us two months of a full ceasefire, and we will hold elections. And we will, of course, be ready to accept any choice our people, the Ukrainian people, make,” Zelenskyy said.

However, Moscow immediately rejected the Ukrainian President's demand.

“The 60 days requested by Zelenskyy are not for holding elections, but for gathering forces, healing wounds, and continuing the war,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated.
