Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has raised concerns over the situation unfolding at the Russia–Georgia border, where Ukrainian citizens are being forcibly and unexpectedly released from Russian territory, often without documents or prior coordination with either Ukrainian or Georgian authorities.

In an update shared on social media, Zelenskyy said Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reported that many of these individuals are Ukrainians who had been held in Russian prisons or penal colonies, including in territories occupied by Russia.

“These citizens are being effectively ‘dumped’ at the border, with no notice,” Zelenskyy said. He confirmed that Ukrainian diplomats are now working to arrange safe transit and repatriation of these individuals back to Ukraine.

The President did not specify how many people are currently affected, but stressed the urgency of resolving the matter in cooperation with Georgian officials.
