Georgian Olympic champion Zurab Zviadauri, detained for illegal possession, acquisition and carrying of firearms, has reached a plea agreement.

Under the terms of the agreement, Zviadauri will leave prison in four months in exchange for a suspended sentence and a ₾5,000 ($1852.26) fine.

The Olympic champion himself requested the plea agreement from the investigative authorities.

Zviadauri was arrested by law enforcement on September 16. The Prosecutor’s Office charged him for illegal acquisition, possession and carrying of firearms and ammunition, punishable by four to seven years in prison.

Previously, the Olympic champion and former Georgian Dream MP was arrested in 2021 in connection with the murder of 27-year-old Nika Kenchoshvili in Tsinandali and was released after several months in prison following a ₾50,000 ($18,522) bail.
