PM Garibashvili: we’re deeply concerned by developments in Ukraine, expressed support in all int’l formats

Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili says that the country is watching hostilities in Ukraine with ‘great concern,’ and that Georgia has used all international platforms to express support for Ukraine amid the current invasion by Russia.

“What is happening in Ukraine is absolutely unacceptable,” Garibashvili said earlier today.

“Invading Ukraine and conducting military operations there is, of course, unacceptable and contrary to the principles and rules of international law. We have communicated with our Ukrainian colleagues about this, expressed our solidarity and support,” Garibashvili said.

Garibashvili stated that per his decision 100 tons of humanitarian cargo had already arrived in Poland which was delivered to Ukraine.

“Ukrainian citizens who are in Tbilisi and have not been able to return to their homeland are also provided with all services free of charge,” he said.

“In all international formats, be it the OSCE Ministerial or the UN format, we have expressed strong support and solidarity with Ukraine. On my instruction, the Minister of Foreign Affairs participated in the OSCE Ministerial and Georgia joined the EU document. We also supported the decision of the Council of Europe to suspend the rights of Russia. Georgia, along with 80 other states also co-sponsored the UN Security Council resolution," Garibashvili said.

Thousands of people have taken to the street in Georgia in recent days to express solidarity with Ukraine.
