Opposition MP calls for unity without UNM, For Georgia

Roman Gotsiridze, a former leader of the United National Movement and a member of a recently established Eurooptimsist faction in the legislative body, on Tuesday called for an unity of Parliamentary and non-Parliamentary opposition groups and individuals from the civil sector wishing to enter politics, except the UNM and the For Georgia party founded by former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia.

In his press comments, Gotsiridze claimed the two parties were able to overcome a five-percent election threshold in the next-year’s Parliamentary elections, while smaller parties were unable to gain seats without joint efforts.

Domestic opposition groups are demanding a lower election threshold for the elections. However, the Georgian Dream ruling power said it had no plans to accept the change.
