Opposition MP Roman Gotsiridze on Monday claimed alleged stepping down of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and potential reshuffle in his cabinet was reportedly connected with the goal of Bidzina Ivanishvili, the ruling Georgian Dream founder and the former PM announcing his third comeback to domestic politics last month, to “directly interfere” in the government work. 

Gotsiridze suggested Ivanishvili's decision to step forward himself signified a recognition of the risks associated with maintaining a distant presence, particularly evident during the pre-election period.

"This shift implies Ivanishvili's closer proximity to executive power, abandoning the role of an unseen hand orchestrating affairs from the shadows. The decision to step into the forefront suggests a strategic move in response to the perceived vulnerabilities of the current administration during electoral periods”, Gotsiridze claimed. 

Opposition MP Khatia Dekanoidze expressed skepticism regarding the anticipated personnel changes, suggesting that those susceptible to Ivanishvili's influence have already aligned themselves, leaving others relatively unaffected.

"He holds the reins in determining nominations, appointments, and dismissals. It appears that he's dissatisfied with the guardianship of his financial interests, particularly by individuals within his inner circle. However, his sphere of influence seems to have contracted significantly, as those predisposed to his sway have likely already acquiesced, leaving others less tethered to his directives over the years”, Dekanoidze claimed.
