Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze marked Miners’ Day in Tkibuli, a town in western Georgia, by highlighting the substantial improvements in wages and working conditions for the city’s miners, reflecting the government’s commitment to supporting this critical sector.
Speaking at an event dedicated to Miners’ Day, Kobakhidze emphasized that miners in Tkibuli have seen gradual increase in their salaries by 80% since 2019. He claimed that this significant boost in pay is part of a broader effort to improve the lives and safety of miners, a group long associated with the city.
“Tkibuli is known as the city of miners, and their work, while exceptionally challenging, is also immensely honorable,” Kobakhidze stated. He recalled the difficult conditions miners faced in 2017-2018, noting that labor safety, mine equipment, and wages were serious concerns at that time.
The PM boasted that since then, the government has taken concrete steps to address these issues.
“In the past few years, we have not only increased miners’ wages by 80% but have also re-equipped the mines and significantly improved labor safety conditions. Our government is committed to ensuring that these advancements continue,” Kobakhidze said.
Kobakhidze also linked the mentioned improvements to the broader urban renewal efforts in Tkibuli, which have transformed the city into a more vibrant and developed community. However, he made it clear that the well-being and safety of the miners remain a top priority.
“We are committed to not only sustaining but also enhancing the progress we’ve made in improving the lives of Tkibuli’s miners. Their hard work deserves our respect and continued support,” the Prime Minister concluded.
