Georgian PM at polling station: EU aspiration no guarantee of peace, Ukraine shows otherwise

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday argued at polling station for general elections that “European integration alone cannot ensure peace”, pointing to the war in Ukraine as evidence. “If striving towards the European Union was a guarantee of peace, there would be peace in Ukraine as well,” he told journalists.

Kobakhidze underscored that “true stability” for Georgia lies in “dignity, sovereignty, and independence.” He added that relations with the US and EU would experience a “complete reset” once Georgia’s elections conclude and the conflict in Ukraine subsides.
