North Korea’s Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui has expressed unwavering support for Russia’s efforts in Ukraine, stating that Pyongyang will back Moscow “until the day of victory.” In a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Friday, Choe highlighted the “invincible military comradeship” between the two nations, commending North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin for their roles in strengthening ties. Choe emphasized that under Putin’s “wise leadership,” Russia would prevail in what she described as a “sacred struggle” for sovereignty and security.
Lavrov reciprocated, praising the close military and security ties between Russia and North Korea, adding that this collaboration enables both nations to “solve important security tasks together.”
Notably, neither official addressed recent claims by the United States and NATO that North Korea has deployed some 10,000 troops to Russia, with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stating that 8,000 of these troops are stationed near the Kursk region.
Choe also accused the United States and South Korea of conspiring to launch a nuclear strike against North Korea, calling the situation on the Korean Peninsula potentially “explosive.” She asserted that North Korea’s nuclear arsenal must be reinforced, emphasizing Pyongyang’s readiness to conduct a retaliatory strike if deemed necessary.
The statements follow an agreement between Kim and Putin in June, which included a mutual defense clause, though Moscow has neither confirmed nor denied the presence of North Korean troops on Russian soil.
