A Georgian citizen has been arrested in the Samegrelo region in the country’s west on charges of illegally purchasing and storing a particularly large quantity of narcotics, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on Thursday.
The suspect, identified as B.Ts., 38, was detained following a joint operation by detectives and investigative divisions of the regional police department.
Authorities say they had seized a significant quantity of the drug Methadone, which had been packaged into 35 separate parcels. A search of the suspect’s home, vehicle, and personal belongings also led to the confiscation of money, adhesive tapes, and electronic scales, which police consider evidence in the case.
The offence carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
