Georgia Chooses EU march to be held in Tbilisi this week

Tbilisi will witness a march under the slogan “Georgia Chooses the European Union organized by civil society groups to emphasize the country’s commitment to European integration ahead of the October 26 general elections.

The event will see participants converging from five different locations in the city, culminating at Freedom Square for a concluding gathering at 19:00.

The march will begin at 17:00 from the following meeting points: Republic Square, Square of Heroes, the 300 Aragveli obelisks in Ortachala, Marjanishvili Square, and the intersection of Amagale and Asatiani Streets in Mtatsminda. The event is being led by civil society groups, with Saba Brachveli of the Civil Society Foundation being one of the main organizers.

In his press comments, Brachveli highlighted the significance of the march, stating, “Before the October 26 elections, we want to remind each other that the choice of the Georgian people is the European Union.”

Brachveli highlight the march reflected a constitutionally grounded principle and the aspirations of the Georgian public, which became especially evident during the spring protests when an “unprecedented number of people” rallied for two months in support of EU integration. He called the upcoming elections a “decisive moment,” urging citizens to reaffirm their commitment to a European future.

The event will feature participation from various public figures, including politicians, although the focus of any speeches will be on societal issues and the importance of the election. Brachveli noted that the march would serve as an opportunity for citizens to “see and encourage each other” ahead of the “critical vote”.

The gathering at Freedom Square will also include musical performances, providing a platform for attendees to come together in a demonstration of unity. Brachveli added, “We invite everyone to join the march. The number of participants will reflect our readiness to make a choice toward the European Union.”
