US Congressman Joe Wilson has expressed his support for the decision by Pia Kauma, President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, to delay her scheduled visit to Georgia. In a post on X, Wilson stated:
“I am grateful to @oscepa President @PiaKauma for this decision. The Ivanishvili regime must not be given even the semblance of legitimacy. Georgia needs free and fair elections!”
Kauma’s visit, initially planned for January 8–10, was postponed following extensive discussions and growing concerns about the political climate in Georgia. The country has been in turmoil since the disputed October 26 Parliamentary elections, which the opposition and civil society groups have labeled as fraudulent.
Announcing her decision, Kauma said:
“Following discussions and after close consideration, I have decided to postpone visiting Georgia until a time that the OSCE PA’s engagement would be most effective. We remain ready to listen to all voices and offer assistance in implementing OSCE/ODIHR election recommendations.”
