Opposition leaders urge high turnout, highlight Georgia’s European path on election day

As Georgia’s general elections unfold, opposition leaders have rallied citizens to participate actively, calling the vote a “decisive moment” for the country’s future and its path toward Europe.

The election features key political contenders, with Georgian Dream as the ruling party, facing several coalitions and alliances. These include Unity – to Save Georgia, led by the United National Movement in coalition with Strategy Agmashenebeli and other political figures; For Georgia, led by former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia; Coalition for Change, comprising Ahali, Girchi – More Freedom, and Droa; and Strong Georgia, an alliance of Lelo for Georgia, For People, Citizens, and Freedom Square.

Giorgi Vashadze, a leader from the Unity – to Save Georgia coalition, expressed optimism after casting his vote, saying, “I refused to isolate this country – I am sure that in this difficult time, Georgia will be united, and in the evening, we will all celebrate a great victory.” Vashadze stressed the importance of active citizen participation, urging Georgians to support a European future. “Today is a decisive day that will determine the coming decades for Georgia. We need maximum turnout to secure a prosperous future for everyone in this country,” he said.

Zurab Japaridze, a leader from the Coalition for Change, echoed this sentiment, declaring, “Today will be a historic day – I am sure the citizens of this country will make a choice that will ultimately lead Georgia to the European Union and NATO.” He expressed confidence in a peaceful electoral process, adding, “In 5-6 years, Georgia will become a full member of the European Union. I voted for this vision, and I believe the vast majority of Georgian citizens will as well.”
