The Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, Pawel Herczynski, on Friday called on Georgian citizens to actively participate in the upcoming elections, stressing their importance for the country’s future.
Speaking to journalists, Herczynski emphasized the decisions made in this election will be pivotal for Georgia.
“Once again, I call all Georgians to go to the elections and vote,” the ambassador urged. “The upcoming elections will be essential in determining the future of your country.”
Herczynski was careful to clarify that the choice of which party to support remains with the Georgian people but stressed that voting was a civic duty. “It’s up to you, the Georgian voters, to decide which party to vote for, but it’s up to me to tell you: please go and vote, your vote is really, really important,” he said.
With the elections set for October 26, Herczynski expressed hope that voter turnout would be “historically high”, encouraging the people of Georgia to take part in “shaping their nation’s destiny”. “We sincerely hope that the turnout in the upcoming elections will be historically high and you will collectively decide the future of your country,” he noted.
When asked about President Salome Zourabichvili’s recent proposal to form a technical government, Herczynski reiterated the EU’s neutral stance. “The European Union is not part of the election process in Georgia. We do not participate in elections. Political parties are competing with each other, and they have to decide what kind of government will be formed based on the results,” he said.
