Tina Bokuchava, chairperson of the National Movement and leader of the Unity coalition criticized the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party, accusing them of focusing their efforts on undermining the opposition rather than addressing the country’s most acute issues, such as poverty and unemployment.
In her latest statement made on Thursday, Bokuchava argued that the government’s priorities are misplaced, suggesting that they are more concerned with political rivalry than with the economic and social hardships faced by the Georgian people.
“Instead of fighting unemployment, lowering prices, or alleviating poverty, the government continues to wage a political war against the National Movement, the opposition, and, ultimately, our European future,” Bokuchava declared.
She went on to highlight the ruling party’s repeated efforts to create divisions within society, suggesting that these tactics are aimed at weakening the pro-Western opposition.
“I am certain that no matter how much Bidzina Ivanishvili tries to divide and fragment society, we, as a community, will respond with unity, calmness, and strength and bring about the changes necessary for every Georgian citizen,” she emphasized, referring to the Honorary Chair and the founder of the GD, Bidzina Ivanishvili.
Bokuchava also reaffirmed the National Movement’s strong position within the electorate, particularly in key districts in the Capital Tbilisi such as Gldani, where the party has traditionally enjoyed solid support.
“The National Movement has always had a strong presence in Gldani, and that remains the case today,” she said, underscoring the party’s continued relevance and resilience despite what she describes as government attempts to sideline the opposition.
