Opposition leader: President Zourabichvili is ruling team’s main problem

Eka Beselia, leader of the For Justice party, commented on the ongoing impeachment process against President Salome Zourabichvili, describing it as a failed attempt by the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party to diminish her influence.

“Zourabichvili is the main problem for Georgian Dream. They see her as a serious force. They’ve tried everything but haven’t managed to deal with her. At this point, we all view this impeachment process as comical,” Beselia said.

She added that after the upcoming elections, Georgia will have a new parliament.

“It’s absurd that with elections so near, and a change in power on the horizon, Kobakhidze is still focused on impeaching the President. Today, yesterday, and tomorrow, Zourabichvili remains their biggest challenge. Despite their efforts, they haven’t resolved this. The impeachment procedure is now a joke,” she said.

Beselia concluded by suggesting that while Georgian Dream may succeed in sending the impeachment case to the Constitutional Court, it will likely be the last document submitted before the country elects a new parliament.

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze recently announced that the impeachment request against President Zourabichvili will be submitted to the Constitutional Court before the elections.
