Georgian opposition leader Giorgi Vashadze attacked during protest

Giorgi Vashadze, leader of the United National Movement party, claimed he was attacked during a protest, describing the incident as a deliberate and violent assault. Vashadze alleged the assailant aimed to harm him severely, potentially attempting an assassination.

“I was standing and speaking when he attacked me. He first struck me in the back and then tried to hit me in the throat. Was it an attempt to kill me?” Vashadze stated while addressing supporters after the incident.

According to Vashadze, the attacker approached him unexpectedly from behind. “I suffered minor injuries, but this is unimaginable. I barely had time to realize what happened. Was it a murder attempt? I want to tell Ivanishvili one thing – you will not succeed. The people will prevail. This individual, captured on video, will eventually testify against whoever ordered this,” he added, referencing Bidzina Ivanishvili, founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party.

Vashadze also criticized the authorities for failing to ensure justice and public safety. “There is no investigation in this country. But the people will defeat this injustice,” he declared, urging his supporters to remain resilient.
