Independent MP Akubardia joins Gakharia – For Georgia opposition

Independent MP Teona Akubardia on Thursday joined the Gakharia – For Georgia opposition ahead of the October 26 general elections, a move announced by party chairman, former Prime Minister, Giorgi Gakharia.

Gakharia praised Akubardia’s decision, highlighting her “extensive experience” in the security sector and her “reputable service” on the Security Council.

He noted, “with the autumn session of Parliament approaching and the election campaign underway, we are thrilled to have Teona Akubardia join our team. Her professionalism and principled approach are well-recognized, and we have collaborated effectively in the past. We look forward to continuing this partnership in the upcoming October 26 elections.”

Gakharia also criticized the ruling Georgian Dream party, alleging that it employed tactics reminiscent of those used by the United National Movement while in office.

He pointed out recent incidents, including the dismissal of school principals in the regions as evidence of such methods.

In her announcement, Akubardia expressed her commitment to the party’s goals, saying, “joining this team is a crucial step in our fight for Georgia’s sovereignty, security, and European-style prosperity. The October elections represent a pivotal moment for our country, distinguishing between a dark past and a bright future.”
