Georgia and Azerbaijan’s strategic partnership is example of regional cooperation, says Maka Bochorishvili

During her official visit to Baku, Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili emphasized the exemplary nature of the strategic partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan. Speaking at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, Bochorishvili expressed confidence that the relationship between the two countries would continue to develop rapidly for the benefit of both nations, with mutual interests in mind.

The meeting with her Azerbaijani counterpart focused on the bilateral agenda, regional developments, and global processes. Bochorishvili highlighted the expansion of cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan, noting the positive impact on regional well-being.

She reiterated Georgia’s dedication to fostering peace and stability in the region, emphasizing the importance of good-neighborly relations and sustainable peace.

Bochorishvili underlined the significance of the trilateral format between Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey, describing it as a successful model of regional collaboration. Discussions also touched on key regional transport and energy projects, including the “Middle Corridor” initiative, which has bolstered the region’s strategic importance.

Both sides reaffirmed their unwavering support for each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Bochorishvili also highlighted challenges posed by the occupation of Georgian territories.

On trade and economic relations, the ministers noted that Azerbaijan remains one of Georgia’s top five trading partners. They expressed hope for increased trade turnover and welcomed the upcoming 10th session of the Joint Intergovernmental Economic Cooperation Commission on January 17 in Baku, co-chaired by the prime ministers of both countries.

The discussion also addressed cultural and educational cooperation, with Bochorishvili extending an invitation to her Azerbaijani counterpart to visit Georgia at a convenient time.
