PM Kobakhidze: Georgia is ready to work with international community to achieve UN’s SDGs

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that Georgia is prepared to collaborate with the international community to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The PM made the statement at the Future Summit held within the framework of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, organized by the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Olaf Scholz, and the President of Namibia, Hage Geingob.

“The Summit of the Future is a unique opportunity to showcase the power of global cooperation and multilateralism,” Kobakhidze said in his speech, recalling that three years ago, the UN Secretary-General proposed this summit to build global consensus for creating a better, safer future for present and future generations.

“Today, that vision has become a reality, demonstrated by our gathering to rebuild trust and find solutions for a better future,” Kobakhidze stated.

He emphasized that achieving a just future is crucial in today’s increasingly complex and rapidly evolving world, where unprecedented challenges, from the aftermath of the pandemic to deepening conflicts and socio-economic inequalities, persist.

“The UN Secretary-General’s report shows that only 17% of the Sustainable Development Goals have been achieved, requiring greater efforts from us. In this context, the Summit of the Future offers a unique chance to demonstrate the strength of global cooperation and multilateralism. Georgia stands ready to work alongside the international community to achieve these goals and fulfill the 2030 Agenda,” he said.

Kobakhidze concluded by welcoming the approval of the Pact for the Future, which he believes will lead to meaningful changes and a brighter future for coming generations. He expressed optimism about its swift implementation.
