Georgia’s State Security Service (SSG) on Tuesday issued a warning about a “criminal plot” aimed at escalating unrest ahead of Saturday’s presidential elections, potentially leading to the “deaths of two to three people”.
The agency claims that the organisers of the plot intend to use these deaths as a catalyst to provoke further violence and destabilise the electoral process.
The SSS outlined plans by “criminal actors” to escalate tensions over the next few days, particularly on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with a partial push on Friday. The agency emphasised that the “deaths of two or three individuals would be used to fuel unrest, stoke radical sentiments, and blame the government for the violence”.
It claimed the plot aimed at “significant disruption”, and authorities were taking “all necessary measures to safeguard the elections and protect the country’s democratic institutions”.
