Georgian Education Minister Giorgi Amilakhvari Resigns

Giorgi Amilakhvari, the Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, has resigned. Amilakhvari made the announcement during a briefing held at the Ministry on Saturday.

In his statement, Amilakhvari revealed that he will be returning to the private sector to continue his career there.

“I joined the Georgian Dream parliamentary team in 2020 and have since tirelessly served my country and Georgian education, whether as a committee chair in parliament or as a minister. Over these four years, I’ve met many honorable people, achieved many things together, and reached important results, which I am proud of. Before entering politics, I had a successful career in business, particularly in the education sector. I asked the Prime Minister and the team’s leaders for the opportunity to return to the private sector after four years of uninterrupted service and to continue supporting our team from there.

Consequently, we have made the joint decision for me to step down as minister. I thank the Prime Minister and our team’s leaders for their understanding. I am leaving the ministerial position before the upcoming elections to allow a new minister to step in and lead the ministry during this critical time,” Amilakhvari stated.

Amilakhvari was appointed as the Minister of Education in March of last year. Before that, he chaired the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Science.
