Internal rifts in Georgian Dream threaten leadership stability, says Eka Beselia

Eka Beselia, leader of the For Justice party, has highlighted serious internal disagreements within the ruling Georgian Dream party, warning that these divisions could jeopardize Bidzina Ivanishvili’s ability to maintain control unless he engages in negotiations to call elections.

“There are significant internal clashes and upheavals within the party,” Beselia stated, citing various sources. “Many within Georgian Dream recognize the dangers of the current trajectory and are trying to distance themselves from it. The most severe challenges are happening internally.”

She pointed to visible tensions, such as Justice Minister Tea Tsulukiani’s reported discontent with Shalva Papuashvili’s role as parliamentary chairperson. “From external signs, it’s evident how difficult the situation is inside the party,” Beselia added.

According to her, Ivanishvili must engage in dialogue to arrange elections, or his grip on power will become unsustainable. “Without stepping into negotiations, it will be nearly impossible for him to hold onto control,” she concluded.
